Hair transplant in Paris: how the 12-month follow-up unfolds

The procedure is one day. The real work, the recovery, the regrowth, the result, unfolds over 12 months. Here is a month-by-month breakdown of what to expect after your FUE transplant at Regenae.

Month by month

Day 1 to day 15: recovery

Day 1 (the morning after): a medical phone call from our team. You can resume daily activities, work from home, light errands. Avoid sun, sweat and any contact with the implanted area.

Day 2: your first medical shampoo, performed by our team at the clinic. We teach you the protocol you'll follow at home for the next two weeks.

Day 5 to 9: the donor zone has fully healed. Redness on the recipient area persists but is fading.

Day 15: all crusts have fallen. The grafts are anchored. Visible signs of the procedure are gone.

Month 1 to month 3: the shedding phase

The transplanted hairs shed. This is normal, and expected: the follicle stays in place; only the visible shaft falls out, and is replaced by new growth in the coming months.

At month 1, we do a first follow-up trichoscopy to confirm the grafts are properly implanted. Patience matters here: many patients worry, but this phase is built into the timeline.

Month 3 to month 6: first regrowth

New hairs start to emerge, initially thin and lighter in color. By month 6, you should see clear regrowth across the entire treated area.

A second trichoscopy at month 6 lets us measure density and adjust any complementary protocols (mesotherapy, growth factors) if appropriate.

Month 6 to month 12: density takes shape

The hairs thicken and gain their final caliber. The hairline takes its final shape between months 8 and 10. The crown (vertex) takes a little longer: final result expected at 18 months.

At month 12 we run a complete final assessment: density measurement, photos compared to your pre-op state, and an honest review of the result.

And after?

The transplanted hairs are yours for life: they come from a zone resistant to androgenetic alopecia. Your remaining native hair, however, continues to age. For many patients we recommend a long-term medical maintenance protocol to preserve the hair we did not transplant.
